Power Generation Technician – Critical Infrastructure Systems

American Diesel Outfitters LLC® is currently seeking highly skilled Power Generation Technicians to support advanced standby and prime power systems across industrial, marine, and mission-critical facilities.

This role is ideal for technicians experienced with large-scale generator systems, electrical distribution, and complex diagnostics. Candidates should be comfortable working on diesel and natural gas generator platforms supporting hospitals, data centers, marine applications, and industrial power plants.

Technical Scope of Work

  • Generator Systems: Service and diagnose diesel and gaseous generators ranging from 20kW to multi-megawatt power plants.
  • Switchgear Systems: Troubleshoot low- and medium-voltage switchgear assemblies, protective relays, breakers, and bus systems.
  • Automatic Transfer Switches: Install, test, and repair ATS systems ensuring seamless transition between utility and standby power.
  • Load Bank Testing: Perform resistive and reactive load bank testing to verify generator performance under simulated operational loads.
  • Paralleling Systems: Diagnose synchronization issues and maintain load-sharing systems for multi-generator installations.
  • Electrical Diagnostics: Interpret electrical one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and generator control logic.
  • Controller Programming: Work with advanced generator controllers including Deep Sea Electronics, ComAp, Woodward, and similar PLC-based control systems.
  • Voltage Regulation: Troubleshoot excitation systems, AVRs, and alternator performance issues.

Preventative Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled maintenance including oil analysis, coolant analysis, and filtration services.
  • Conduct battery load testing and starting system diagnostics.
  • Inspect fuel delivery systems including pumps, injectors, filtration systems, and fuel polishing equipment.
  • Perform vibration analysis and thermal inspections of generator components.
  • Support commissioning and startup of newly installed generator systems.

Preferred Technical Experience

  • Industrial or commercial generator service experience
  • Data center or hospital standby power systems
  • Marine or offshore generator installations
  • Experience with major generator manufacturers such as CAT, Cummins, MTU, or Kohler
  • Strong understanding of three-phase electrical systems and power distribution
