Now Hiring Experienced Marine Diesel Technicians – Work on leading marine engines, propulsion systems, and complex vessel systems in a high-performance environment.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Marine Diesel Technician responsible for diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel engines and vessel systems. This role supports commercial, government, and recreational vessels including yachts, sailboats, and powercraft up to approximately 100 feet.
The ideal candidate is highly skilled in diesel propulsion systems, generator systems, and marine electrical troubleshooting, and can work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair marine diesel engines and propulsion systems
- Perform maintenance on generators and auxiliary power systems
- Repair marine transmissions, shafts, and jet propulsion systems
- Service electrical systems including 12V / 24V marine systems
- Inspect and test fuel, cooling, exhaust, and hydraulic systems
- Read schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic software outputs
- Maintain accurate service documentation and repair records
Equipment & Systems Experience
Marine Diesel Engines
- Volvo Penta (including IPS systems)
- Cummins marine diesel engines
- John Deere marine engines
- Northern Lights / Lugger generators
- Steyr marine engines
- Suzuki outboard and repower systems
Propulsion Systems
- Inboard shaft-driven propulsion systems
- ZF / Twin Disc marine transmissions
- Hamilton Jet propulsion systems
- IPS and pod drive systems
Electrical & Support Systems
- Marine electrical systems (12V / 24V)
- Engine control and diagnostics systems
- Fuel injection systems
- Cooling, exhaust, and hydraulic systems
Required Qualifications
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Formal training or equivalent diesel engine experience
- Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic ability
- Ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal English)
Preferred Certifications
- ABYC Certification
- Volvo Penta, Cummins, John Deere certifications
- Northern Lights / Lugger training
- Steyr Engines certification
- Hamilton Jet training
- EPA certification (preferred)
- Military diesel/marine engineering experience (Coast Guard / Navy)
Compensation & Benefits
- $40.00–$55.00 per hour based on experience
- $120,000–$165,000+ total annual earning potential
- $5,000 sign-on bonus (structured payout)

Work Environment
This position operates within a premier waterfront marine service facility on the San Francisco Bay. Technicians split time between a modern, recently expanded engine department, customer vessels, dockside service work, and field assignments throughout the Bay Area.
You'll work on everything from commercial workboats and tugboats to Coast Guard vessels, pilot boats, luxury yachts, and advanced marine propulsion systems. Every day presents new technical challenges and opportunities to expand your expertise.
