Illumination Dynamics provides specialized lighting equipment, commercial vehicles, generators, and support equipment for the motion picture, television, live entertainment, commercial production, and sports broadcast industries.
We are looking for an experienced Diesel Technician who knows how to diagnose problems, repair diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, and take pride in getting the job done correctly. This is a hands-on position for a technician who enjoys variety, troubleshooting, and working with equipment that supports some of the most demanding production environments in the industry.
The Role: Beyond the Conventional Fleet Shop
As a Diesel Technician, you will be responsible primarily for the diagnosis, repair, preventive maintenance, and preparation of diesel-powered commercial vehicles and specialty equipment. You will work with diesel engines, vehicle systems, electrical components, and related equipment while helping ensure our vehicles and equipment are ready to go when our customers need them.
This is not a traditional truck fleet environment. The equipment you work on can support major productions, television projects, live events, sports broadcasts, and commercial shoots.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines and commercial vehicles.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and scheduled service.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Diagnose problems using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Repair and maintain diesel fuel, cooling, braking, suspension, steering, and drivetrain systems.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical service information.
- Perform repairs and component replacement accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare vehicles and specialty equipment for rental and production use.
- Assist with equipment modifications and specialty vehicle projects when needed.
- Perform basic fabrication, welding, or equipment modification when your experience allows.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas organized and properly maintained.
- Work cooperatively with other technicians and team members.
- Respond to occasional after-hours or emergency service requirements when necessary.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
We are looking for a proven Diesel Technician or Heavy-Duty Truck Technician with strong mechanical and diagnostic abilities.
Required Core Qualifications
- Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and commercial/heavy-duty vehicles.
- Strong understanding of diesel mechanical systems.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and technical information.
- Comfortable using standard hand and power tools, basic computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- CDL Class A or B
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Experience That's A Plus
- Diesel generator experience or preventive maintenance/troubleshooting.
- Experience working around power-generation equipment and electrical diagnostics.
- Welding and fabrication / modifying commercial vehicles or trailers.
- Fleet or rental equipment experience.
- Experience in entertainment, production, transportation, or specialty equipment environments.
- EGSA certification.
